7 Causal Factors

Years ago, law enforcement officer safety experts identified Seven Causal Factors that lead to, or contributed to officer related assaults. Well the Bible says that "Your adversary, the devil, prowls about like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour" (1 Peter 5:8). Those Seven causal factors, identified by officer safety experts, can also apply to the Christian law enforcement officer's spiritual life. The Christian law enforcement officer needs to be aware of these causal factors or their walk with God will begin to erode, through the daily assaults of the enemy.

Day in and Day out we in law enforcement think about our physical survival, and plan accordingly to make it through each day of our assignment. How often however, do we think of our spiritual survival in an arena far more dangerous that the physical world. In officer survival classes we are told about the potential of being shot at although many of us will complete our 30 year career without ever experiencing this horror. Well the Scripture, in the book of Ephesians (Eph. 6:16), tells us very clearly that all day long WE DO get shot at by the enemy with flaming arrows. The Scripture tells us to pick up the shield that we might survive. Follow the below tactical recommendations and survive your day.

1. Lack of prior planning

Resist temptation.

Luke 4: 1-13

2. Poor Communication

Wholesome words.

Ephesians 4:29 - Don't use foul or abusive language. Let everything you say be good and helpful, so that your words will be an encouragement to those who hear them.

3. Unfamiliar with Equipment

God's Word, the Bible.

Psalm 119:11 - I have hidden your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.

James 1:22 - But prove yourselves doers of the word, and not merely hearers who delude themselves.

4. Partners Splitting Up

One lifts another.

Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 Two people can accomplish more than twice as much as one; they get a better return for their labor. If one person falls, the other can reach out and help. But people who are alone when they fall are in real trouble.

5. Tactical Error

Look up.

2 Chronicals 7:14 - Then if my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sins and heal their land.

James 5:16 - Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and wonderful results.

6. Poor Mental Attitude

Romans 8:18 -Yet what we suffer now is nothing compared to the glory He will give us later.

Ephesians 6:12 - For we are not fighting against flesh and blood, but against the evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against those mighty powers of darkness who rule this world, and against wicked spirits in heavenly realms.

7. Physically Unfit

Acts 1:8 - "But when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, you will receive power and will tell people about me everywhere - in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth."
