What Is The Purpose of
Iron Sharpens Iron?
Iron Sharpens Iron was established to provide support between and among men and women from the law enforcement profession that follow the teachings of Jesus Christ. Our meetings are a place where officers can come together in order to be encouraged, enriched and motivated to keep their eyes on Jesus Christ; a place where officers can be taught how to perform their duties in a manner consistent with the teachings of the Bible. Our website is a place where officers can learn about Jesus Christ and what He says about law enforcement, and how we can survive the stresses of our job.
Iron Sharpens Iron is also a place for non-Christian law enforcement officers to come and hear how the burdens of their job and their life can be lightened through a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. It is our hope and our prayer that the non-Christian law enforcement officer would hear of God’s love and forgiveness, and receive Jesus Christ as their personal Savior.
What Is NOT the Purpose
of Iron Sharpens Iron?
Iron Sharpens Iron is not a replacement for a home church, regular Bible study, or Christian fellowship.
Who Is This Ministry
For?
Iron Sharpens Iron is open to all law enforcement officers, Christian and non-Christian.
This is a support ministry that is for the benefit of the spouse, children and family as much as for the individual involved in the law enforcement profession. We at Iron Sharpens Iron know that it is the spouse and children who often times have to put up with the anger, frustration, bitterness etc. that is brought home by the officer.
What Is Taught at
Our Meetings?
Our meetings focus on applying Biblical truths and teachings to our daily lives with a special ephasis towards the law enforcement profession. We have covered such topics as: maintaining integrity, keeping spiritually fit, being in and staying in God’s will, strengthening our relationship with one another and the marriage relationship, getting along with other employees in the work place, overcoming doubt and discouragement, dealing with stress, keeping on the full spiritual armor of God, being witnesses for Jesus Christ, and much, much more.
When Does Iron Sharpens
Iron Meet?
We meet four times a year, on Saturday mornings. We usually try and meet twice in the City of Long Beach, and
twice in the City of Torrance.
In addition to our regular quaterly meetings we try and have several couples events each year.
Who Teaches At Iron
Sharpens Iron Meetings?
We have guest speakers, speakers from within our group, as well as ministers from local area churches that teach on topics of need for law enforcement. Additionally we teach each other by concluding each meeting with everyone joining small breakout groups and discussing the personal application of what was taught during the meeting.
What About Those With
Rank?
There is no police department rank structure recognized within a Christian Police Officers fellowship such as Iron Sharpens Iron. As in the body of Christ, there can be no dividing wall.
"There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free man, there is neither male nor
female; for you are all one in Jesus Christ." Galations
3:28
The Apostle Paul reminds us of this because division is a tool used by the enemy to defeat us. All believers are welcome to participate with open and honest expression without concern for, or recognition of, their rank, level or position within their department.
What Is The Catalyst?
In a fellowship such as Iron Sharpens Iron we are committed to providing the opportunity for fellow believers to gather together for the purpose of strengthening each other in our daily walk with Jesus Christ. This "sharpening" can only be accomplished under the leadership of Jesus Christ and through our brotherly love, one for another.
"A new commandment I give to you, that you love one
another, even as I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this all men will know that you are My disciples,
if you have love for one another."
John 13:34-35.
